In diesem Jahr war die Verleihung der Emmys, der amerikanischen Fernsehpreise, in mehrfacher Hinsicht eine denkwürdige Veranstaltung. Alles nur Online und Absturz für Netflix, Amazon & Co...
Die Preisverleihung 2020 stand voll und ganz im Zeichen von Corona, sämtliche Teilnehmer, GewinnerInnen wie LaudatorInnen waren nur per Live-Schalte dabei und auch das Publikum musste Zuhause bleiben.
Das war absehbar, was aber viele in der Branche überrascht hat, war, wie wenige Preise auf die in den letzten Jahren erfolgsverwlöhnten Platzhirschen Netflix und Amazon fielen. Der Abräumer war mit Riesenabstand eine Comedy-Serie einer Außenseiterfirma (Pop-TV), "Schitt's Creek", die gleich Neun Auszeichnungen auf sich vereinen konnte. Und auch die Miniserie "Watchmen" (HBO) gehörte zu den Mehrfachsiegern. Eine Auszeichnung ging sogar nach Deutschland an Regisseurin Maria Schrader für die vierteilige Serie "Unorthodox"
